Enter: The Godfather of Schenectady Hip-Hop

ABOUT PROMISE THE UNBREAKABLE™️

THE ONLY PROMISE YOU CAN'T BREAK.

Promise The Unbreakable™️ born Promise D. Soto on Tuesday-July 19th, 1994, is a Schenectady, New York-born & raised artist, producer, recording engineer, mix & mastering engineer, multimedia businessman, creative director, event curator, entrepreneur & community builder whose story is rooted in one simple philosophy:

No matter what life puts you through, you don't have to break.

Long before the trademark, the music videos, the albums, the performances, the businesses & the reputation, there was simply a young kid from Schenectady with a pen, some paper & a dream.

Public profiles of Promise have described him as a Schenectady-born storyteller whose childhood was heavily centered around writing, perseverance & creativity. His relationship with music began inside his father's former studio, where he learned the fundamentals of recording & production at an extremely young age.

What followed would become one of the most extensive independent creative journeys to come out of the 518 Capital Region.

BEFORE 2012 — THE FOUNDATION

Before Promise The Unbreakable™️ was officially established as a brand, Promise was already building his career from the ground up.

He released three hard-copy CD mixtapes:

2008 — "Pen & Paper"

2009 — "More Than Muzik"

2010 — "Blood in the Sand"

These projects were created out of his father's former studio in Schenectady.

In 2009, at just 15 years old, Promise became a father to his first child. Rather than allowing becoming a teenage parent to end his career path, he continued pursuing music & released "More Than Muzik" after his child's birth.

He wasn't waiting for a record deal.

He wasn't waiting for a manager.

He wasn't waiting for someone to discover him.

Promise took his CDs & cheap thumb drives directly to the streets—handing them out to people walking down the street & even approaching people sitting in their cars at red lights.

That grassroots approach created the street traction necessary to jump-start his musical career.

The blueprint had already begun:

Create it yourself.

Believe in it yourself.

Put it in people's hands yourself.

2012 — THE FIRST MILESTONE

At just 17 years old, Promise graduated high school.

The same determination that pushed him to continue making music while becoming a young father pushed him toward the next stage of his education.

2014 — EDUCATION, ENGINEERING & COMMUNITY

At 19 years old, Promise graduated from college after studying Digital Arts Engineering & Computer Science, alongside Music Theory in Business, & earned his Pro Tools Certification under the tutelage of William “Prez” Bush, known for his production work on Tupac's “Thugz Mansion”.

But Promise wasn't only developing himself technically.

He was developing himself as a leader.

Promise teamed up with Director Prince Sprauve, Planned Parenthood & the Schenectady City School District for an initiative designed to confront teenage pregnancy & the 27% birth rate Schenectady was facing.

The initiative became a three-year series of panels featuring young parents speaking directly to students inside high schools about teenage pregnancy, responsibility, struggles & the realities they had experienced.

As a young father himself & an increasingly visible public figure in the community, Promise used his own experiences to speak about overcoming adversity, finding purpose & building success despite difficult circumstances.

According to local Schenectady City sources, the initiative helped contribute to a dramatic reduction in the rate—from approximately 24% down to 7%, moving Schenectady from having one of the highest rates in the state toward the bottom 17.

For a local artist without a huge established following, this represented something much bigger than music.

It demonstrated that his voice could create impact.

That experience would lead to additional community initiatives led by Promise—including one of the most important steps in his professional journey:

Creating & trademarking the identity “Promise The Unbreakable™️.”

The name would eventually become much more than an artist name.

It became a philosophy.

It became a business.

It became a brand.

It became a movement.

2015 — PROMISE THE UNBREAKABLE™️ IS BORN

In 2015, Promise trademarked & launched his first multi-layered business identity as Promise The Unbreakable™️.

He established himself as a Multi-Media Businessman & Musical Talent, combining music, recording, production, video, digital media, entrepreneurship & community work.

Publicly available trademark records confirm that Promise The Unbreakable™️ was federally registered in 2020, with protection covering musical recordings, clothing, video streaming services & live entertainment/performance-related services.

That same year, Promise released his first self-produced mixtapes through SoundCloud & his first music video through YouTube.

He also helped produce & perform for “The Red Vent” mixtape & mixtape release event held at Proctor's Theatre in Schenectady.

Promise additionally played a major role in the production of Schenectady's first film, “Fast Life” while having a character's role in the creation of Schenectady's second-ever produced film, “Cradle” which was based around Promise & others from his community. With a goal to further push the 3-year teenage pregnancy awareness initiative.

Both films were directed & led by 518/Brooklyn, NY native Director Prince Sprauve, alongside the first-ever Red-Carpet event connected to the film.

Promise was no longer simply making songs.

He was building an entire creative ecosystem.

2016 — HAIL TO THE MOON

In 2016, Promise launched his second major creative initiative through a record-company-style collective involving:

M.W.Films / 518_Creative_Films

Jah'Manji Beats

NoeWunMadeThis

Together, they operated under the identity:

"BLOOD MOON FOREVER"

Promise began referring to his core following & creative team as the “Moonies”, a name that would become part of the identity surrounding his music, interviews & movement.

That year, he released three additional projects, including a collaboration project with Jah'Manji Beats featuring numerous notable artists, while also releasing a large collection of music videos created by his close-knit team of creators.

Promise opened for a plethora of major artists including but not limited to Token at Crossgates Mall & produced/worked with a long list of 518 & Upstate New York talent, including:

Hollyhood Shumpo, Chris Cool Peeples, Andre The Giant/WolfGang Williams, Word The III Eye, MBB Reczy, BP Pill, The Late, Great - Dannie O'Binlavish, JokerJojo TooPaid, Ace, Clapo, Houdini (518), Sir Taylor (ATL), McDeizy, KJ Finesse, Kvng Clear-Mind, Trevor Yarter, Tee-Kay V & many more.

His goal was never simply to become successful alone.

He wanted to create an environment where other creators could win too.

2017 — BUILDING THE 518

In 2017, Promise released another three projects & continued establishing himself as one of the dominant independent forces in the 518-music scene.

His consistency became impossible to ignore.

He was performing multiple times nearly every weekend throughout 518 venues, bars & events.

He began making his first radio-station visits, interviews & radio appearances while continuing to release music & visual content.

At this point, he was consistently booked to open for nationally recognized industry artists.

At the same time, Promise began creating his own series of live-performance events, providing opportunities for artists from throughout the Capital Region to showcase themselves & further their careers.

This followed the release of his collaboration with NoeWunMadeThis, “Welcomes, In Advance”.

Promise wasn't simply participating in the 518-scene.

He was helping build it.

2018 — THE BLUEPRINT GETS LOUDER

By 2018, Promise's independent operation had reached another level.

He released an uncountable amount of performance footage, behind-the-scenes footage & interviews while traveling for record-label meetings in California.

He received his first nomination for Best Hip-Hop/Rap Artist, Upstate New York.

His following reached approximately 10,000 across platforms, while his interviews, performances & behind-the-scenes footage continued spreading throughout social networks.

He also re-released his music catalog onto his official YouTube channel with a level of organization & consistency that reflected industry-standard label operations.

During this period, Promise also crossed paths creatively with emerging 518 talent including Knuckles Brimm, who would later become viral while representing Schenectady.

The local movement was changing.

New artists were emerging.

New videographers were emerging.

New content creators were emerging.

& Promise was right in the center of it.

Contemporary coverage from The Collaborative & The Alt Magazine documented Promise's extraordinary independent output during this period, noting that within only a few years he had released 15 music videos, eight mixtapes & nearly 30 local performances. The same profile described him as a key player in the 518 hip-hop scene & highlighted his mission of bringing greater unity to the region's artists leading to his pool party Summer End Blowout, inviting a plethora of up & coming artists & talents from the area to once again, gather & display their talents. Birthing countless ideas to creatives on promotion as well as showing that events don’t have to follow a specific regimen & could in fact, happen anywhere, anytime. Even performing from a pool. He released “Someday, This’ll Be Ordinary” music video displaying a glimpse into said day available on his YouTube Channel where you can see a huge crowd of the up & comers who believed in Promise including but not limited to Touch Money Cease, Tee-Kay V & more..

His longtime creative relationship with videographer Melvin Williams also became an important part of this era. Williams & Promise developed a prolific video partnership, with Williams describing their early run of music videos & the rapid growth of their visual work together. Also, laying the blueprint for other artist/videographer duos.

At this point, it wasn't a question of if Promise's blueprint would attract larger industry attention.

It was only a question of when.

2019 — THE END OF THE MIXTAPE ERA

In 2019, Promise went into overdrive.

He released a 50-track body of music split across four mixtapes:

• Someday, This'll Be Ordinary Pt. 1

• Someday, This'll Be Ordinary Pt. 2

• Perhaps, They'll Listen Now

• Guess Enough's Not Enough Yet

Three of those projects were completely solo.

The fourth became something much bigger.

Promise hosted a mixtape creation party, inviting artists throughout the Capital Region 518 to come display their talents at no charge, with no catch.

Over a dozen artists across multiple genres showed up.

Promise matched their energy, elevated their opportunities & helped create a moment within 518/Schenectady hip-hop culture where artists could showcase themselves without having to pay for the opportunity.

This became another example of Promise's philosophy:

If you build something, bring somebody with you.

With the release of the final mixtape, Promise officially announced the end of what he called his Mixtape Era.

& in the same breath, he announced his entrance into the professional music industry.

Only two months later came his debut EP:

"IT'S NO SUCH THING AS LITTLE LIES - EP"

The project featured:

“The @'s”

“Love On Top”

“On Me”

“Vitiligo This, Vitiligo That”

“Everybody Dies”

The EP is officially documented on major music platforms.

The solo studio release generated over 100,000 streams during the first month, marking a major accomplishment for an artist born & raised in Schenectady.

He also received his first Eddies Music Awards Nomination for Best Hip Hop/Rap Artist of the Year, competing alongside major names including Johnny 2 Phones, KATANI, OHZHE, JB aka Dirty Moses & Selli Paper.

For Promise, the significance went beyond the nomination.

He had reached a point where an artist who had built his career primarily through independent/free mixtape culture was standing alongside artists already operating heavily within the streaming economy.

Once again, the 518 had been put on notice.

2020 — NEW YEARS 2020 VISION

Promise entered 2020 by throwing the historic “New Years 2020 Vision” event in Schenectady.

During the event, he announced the Grand Opening of his own local Venue/Bar & Grill.

With more than 50 artist performances, the night became another major milestone in the development of the 518 creative community. Continuing to show artists the power artist had in creating opportunities for themselves & others.

The event also helped give birth to new waves of content creators, including Chris Cool Peeples & Word The III Eye's podcast, which launched through a livestream hosted at the event.

Promise's social media following at the time began referring to him as:

“THE GODFATHER OF SCHENECTADY HIP-HOP”

Some even compared his community-building philosophy to the late, great Nipsey Hussle.

Following the New Years event, Promise announced plans to open NYS's first-ever approved liquor store/smoke shop, “Unbreakable's: Smokes, Wines & Accessories LLC”.

The venture received approval from the City of Schenectady, but the massive changes caused by COVID-19 & the government shutdown prevented the business from fully getting off the ground.

But COVID wasn't going to stop Promise from creating.

During the shutdown, he released his second studio project:

"THE BIGGER PERSON - LP"

The project included:

“The Bigger Person”

“Blood In, Blood Out”

“The Hard Knocks”

“TBH (The Listening)”

“I Don't Wanna Talk About It”

“On Borrowed Time”

“Get in Line”

“.5 Man, .5 Amazing”

“Go & Say I Said That”

“Bullets on the Dance Floor”

The album is documented on major music platforms.

During a period when much of the world had stopped, Promise continued moving.

Then, on August 1, 2020, everything changed.

Promise was involved in a life-changing automobile accident that nearly cost him his life.

The accident left him dealing with severe physical limitations. He experienced approximately 80% loss of functionality from his neck down the left side of his body to his left foot, underwent physical therapy & electroshock therapy, & faced a 50/50 chance of recovery.

He was given the choice of undergoing nerve surgery or attempting to heal naturally.

Promise chose to fight.

For approximately six months, he endured an excruciating recovery.

& he never let the world see how difficult it was.

By the end of 2020, with the help of his Moonie conglomerates, Promise opened a private studio space within his Schenectady venue.

After six months of patience, pain & rehabilitation, he was back to work.

Without the world knowing what he had been through.

That wasn't a comeback story.

That was Unbreakable.

2022 — THE MOON-CHILD SHINES AGAIN

On January 1, 2022, Promise released:

"HOW MANY MOONS HAVE SHINED - EP"

The project was produced entirely by 518 talent PDR Bigga Ban$$.

The five-track EP included:

“How Many Moons Have Shined”

“Man of the Mountains”

“All Jokes Aside”

“Dear Losses, We Bosses Now”

“Measure Twice, Cut Once”

The project is documented on Apple Music, Amazon Music & other platforms.

Promise showed that although he had learned to pace himself, he was still here.

Still creating.

Still evolving.

Still dangerous with a microphone.

The project blended his classic rap aura with more melodic, radio-ready records, particularly “Measure Twice, Cut Once.”

2023 — LOVE BACK ON TOP

In 2023, Promise released the official music video for “Love On Top,” from It's No Such Thing As Little Lies - EP. Entirely revamping the Moonies love & passion for his 1st studio release.

The video was directed, filmed & edited by Melvin Williams of M.W.Films / 518_Creative_Films in Miami, Florida.

Promise traveled to Miami for shows, videos & the type of creative work he had become known for.

During Rolling Loud weekend, he encountered Lil Boosie & Young M.A. outside his hotel.

Promise invited them to participate in the beach video shoot.

Young M.A. couldn't participate because she was preparing for her own filming but parted ways with Promise & company with prayers of safety to them as they were all down the representing NY. A moment that would stick with Promise forever. Lil Boosie on the other hand, showed Promise love after Promise personally grabbed his attention in the street.

Promise showed Boosie's team their work & the following they had built.

The rest became another chapter in the story.

Lil Boosie joined the video & later posted Promise, Melvin Williams & longtime creative brother Jah'Manji Beats.

Another city.

Another opportunity.

Another milestone.

2024 — GIFTS : MY FATHER GAVE ME EVERYTHING

In 2024, Promise released:

"GIFTS : MY FATHER GAVE ME EVERYTHING - LP"

The entire project was produced by Albany, NY talent Kvng Clear Mind, also known as Shi Maeweather, who had become one of the widely recognized names in the 518 market alongside Promise.

The project contained a little bit of everything.

It also contained something Promise had revealed more openly than ever before:

Vulnerability.

The album carried elements of his classic Mixtape Era while introducing listeners to the man behind the music.

Heavy records included:

“Hate To Say, I Told You So”

“All's Fair In Love & War”

“1/3”

A track revealing not only Promise’s having of a set of triplets, but also that he was the sole survivor of triplets himself.

Just… Wow…

The title itself carried a deeper meaning.

On the surface, "Gifts : My Father Gave Me Everything" sounds like a thank-you letter to the father who helped mold Promise.

& in many ways, it is.

But the title also represents the irony of the things Promise didn't receive from the family he came from.

The love.

The guidance.

The support.

Those absences became part of what shaped him.

Instead of allowing that lack to define him negatively, Promise transformed it into a reason to offer himself as the person he wished he had, making the studio release a callback reminder of the importance in Promise releasing & becoming "The Bigger Person". Offering yet another guiding light.

To creators.

To artists.

To friends.

To his community.

To anyone trying to find their way.

Once again, reminding everyone why he became:

“The only Promise that you can't break.”

The project & songs from it remain part of his official streaming catalog.

2025 — IT’S A BIRD, IT’S A PLANE…

In 2025, Promise released the official music video for:

“.5 MAN, .5 AMAZING”

The song originally appeared on "The Bigger Person - LP".

The video was directed, filmed & edited by Melvin Williams of M.W.Films / 518_Creative_Films in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The message was simple:

Promise was still making history taking his story to the world.

One major city at a time.

Then came 2026.

2026 — DADDY'S HOME

Promise wasn't simply returning.

He was rebuilding the entire machine.

In January 2026, he invested more than $20,000 into studio & video equipment.

Then he made one post across his social-media platforms to a core following totaling approximately 50,000 people.

He didn't write an essay.

He didn't explain himself.

He didn't give anyone a warning.

He used two words:

DADDY'S HOME.

The 518 heard it.

People wondered where he had been.

Some believed he had been signed & left the city.

Some believed he had been in jail.

And one question started circulating:

“WHERE I BEEN?”

The answer was coming through the music as well as his next initiative “What The 518 Sounds Like”. A collective of creators from the area hosting ranges of events from industry mixers for gathering creators in 1 room to mic drops to pool parties to even live events on top of the barrage of music. His return is remnant of his entire 2015-2020 run within just his 1st year returning. Once again, showing where he stands as a prominent figure in the 518’s creative scene. Immediately back on radio stations, immediately back on top.

Promise announced that the days of releasing only one project every year or two were over.

He was taking his seat back on the throne.

He began his 2026 run with:

"BEFORE THEY KNEW YOU WERE KING - EP"

The project was produced, tracked, mixed and mastered solely by The Unbreakable himself.

There was no confusion about what had returned.

Not just the artist.

Not just the rapper.

The entire creative standard was back.

& the 518 had changed while Promise was away.

Artists had grown.

Creators had developed.

New sounds had emerged.

New platforms had been built.

Yet, when Promise returned, the response from his hometown was overwhelmingly welcoming.

The city had grown.

But it hadn't forgotten.

& only approximately one month later, Promise followed the EP with:

"ALL YOU COULD DO IS ALL YOU COULD DO - LP"

Marking his 6th studio release, the LP became another chapter in his 2026 return.

The official streaming catalog currently lists the 2026 album alongside "Gifts : My Father Gave Me Everything", "The Bigger Person", Before They Knew You Were King" & his earlier releases.

Songs include:

“All You Could've Done”

"Clear As The Cloudless Sky"

"Outta The Moon-Child Blue"

"When HE Made ME"

"My Story & I'm Sticking To It"

"Poor You"

"When It's Men Talking"

"Memoirs Of Money"

"The Precipice Of Excellence"

"If Today Was My Last Day"

But Promise wasn't finished.

Between releases, he continued appearing at shows and events, leading Mic Drops series events, music videos, artist showcases & back-to-school donation drives, continuing to establish himself as a constant presence within his hometown community.

I'D PROBABLY HATE ME TOO

Promise then revealed an entirely new side of himself through:

"I'D PROBABLY HATE ME TOO - EP"

A jazz, disco & dance-influenced project, the EP demonstrates a broader musical palette and showcases Promise's vocal range & songwriting ability.

Rather than allowing himself to remain trapped inside one genre or one version of himself, Promise continues to evolve.

The project introduces a different energy.

A different sound.

A different side of the artist.

Its standout single:

“WRONG & RIGHT”

represents another evolution in the Promise The Unbreakable™️ story.

Because the same artist who once handed out hard-copy mixtapes at red lights is now creating across multiple sounds, multiple mediums & multiple industries.

THE MUSIC

Promise The Unbreakable™️'s catalog represents more than a collection of songs.

It is a timeline.

A journal.

A testimony.

A record of growth.

A record of pain.

A record of survival.

From the raw independence of his early hard-copy mixtapes to the polished studio projects of his professional era, every chapter represents a different version of the same person.

His official catalog currently spans releases including:

• It's No Such Thing As Little Lies - EP 2019

• The Bigger Person - LP 2020

• How Many Moons Have Shined - EP 2021

• Gifts : My Father Gave Me Everything - LP 2024

• Before They Knew You Were King - EP 2026

& behind his 7 studio releases, exist an extensive independent mixtape catalog reaching back to 2008.

• Someday, This'll Be Ordinary Pt. 2 - Mixtape 2018

• Perhaps, They'll Listen Now - Mixtape 2018

• Guess Enough's Not Enough Yet - Mixtape 2019

His music moves through hip-hop, trap, melodic rap, R&B, soul, jazz, disco, dance & experimental territory.

But regardless of the sound, the message remains:

There is always something to absorb.

That philosophy was also reflected in Promise's earlier public interviews, where he explained that even his harder records were intended to have a reason & a message behind them.

THE MUSIC VIDEOS

The visual side of Promise The Unbreakable™️ is equally important.

From his first YouTube releases to the extensive video runs of the 2015–2019 era, Promise has treated music videos as another form of storytelling.

His creative partnership with Melvin Williams / M.W.Films / 518_Creative_Films became especially significant, with Williams working extensively on Promise's videos & helping establish a visual identity around his music.

Featured visual chapters include:

“Where I Been”

“Love On Top”

“.5 Man, .5 Amazing”

& so many more.

Alongside a much larger catalog of performance footage, interviews, behind-the-scenes footage & music videos spanning the Unbreakable era.

THE 518 CONNECTION

Promise The Unbreakable™️ is inseparable from the 518 Capital Region.

His story is not simply about leaving Schenectady.

The name Promise carries meaning even beyond the brand.

Promise's birth name is Promise.

According to his own story, his father gave him that name as a promise to his mother that he would always be there for her—& his parents remained married for more than 30 years.

So, the name became personal.

His father kept his promise.

& Promise intends to keep his.

The promise not to break.

The promise to continue.

The promise to create.

The promise to build.

The promise to inspire.

The promise to leave something behind that outlives the moment.
